Welcome From Rebecca Machin
Starting at a new school has always filled me, in equal parts, with excitement and apprehension. Every school is different, with slightly different routines, structures and ways of doing things. As Head teacher I want to make sure that you know you are all welcomed, whether a new pupil, a new parent or a new member of staff. As a new and valued member of our team, we are keen to support you and to capitalise on your learning, energy, and enthusiasm.
At Kinlochleven 3-18 School we aim to be honest, kind, inclusive, confident and ambitious, offering high standards of teaching and learning across a broad curriculum. Our curriculum, based on the recommendations of Curriculum for Excellence, offers pupils the opportunity to develop skills and abilities across the full range of subject areas but also through wider achievement, inter-disciplinary learning and by taking part in the ethos and life of the school as a community.
We are fortunate, in the school, to have an active and supportive Parent Council. New parent members will be warmly welcomed. Dates of meetings are advertised via the school websites as well as class dojo/mobile phone app. This partnership of teachers, parents and the wider community is an essential strand in helping our pupils to achieve their full potential.
Pupils too can have an input into the development of the school via their Pupil Councils which represent their views on various aspects of school life. Pupils’ views are treated with respect and taken into account when decisions are made.
Parents are kept informed of their child’s progress through reports and also through Parents’ Evenings. Pupils also work on producing a profile which reflects on their progress in school as well as providing a way of recording your child’s wider achievements. A two-way flow of communication is a key aspect of the partnership between home and school, and members of the school community are encouraged to contact the school – at any time – if a problem should arise or if you require further information.
We look forward to getting to know you in the years ahead and wish you a rewarding association with our School
